Elon Musk Open Sources Latest X Algorithm

Don’t Keep This to Yourself

X has published the latest version of its “For You” recommendation algorithm on GitHub, according to a new announcement from Elon Musk. The update was shared through Musk’s official 𝕏 account alongside a link to the public repository managed by xAI. The repository contains code related to the recommendation systems that help power content ranking on the platform.

According to the GitHub page, the project is described as the algorithm powering the “For You” feed on 𝕏. The repository is publicly available under the xAI organization and allows developers to review, contribute to, and study parts of the platform’s recommendation infrastructure. The release continues Musk’s broader push toward greater transparency around how content is surfaced on 𝕏.

The “For You” feed is one of the core discovery systems on X and determines which posts are recommended to users based on engagement patterns, relevance signals, and user activity. While the repository does not represent every internal system used by the platform, it provides insight into parts of the ranking and recommendation logic behind the feed experience. X has previously open-sourced portions of its recommendation infrastructure following Musk’s acquisition of the company.

The latest publication also highlights the growing overlap between X and xAI, which now hosts several engineering and AI-related projects through public repositories. xAI has recently expanded its focus on developer tooling, infrastructure software, and AI systems tied to the broader X ecosystem. The new algorithm repository is now available publicly on GitHub for developers and researchers to explore.
