A Reddit post on r/IndianWorkplace has gained attention after an employee shared their workplace situation.
The Employee’s Story
I recently joined this company and during the interview and at the time of joining, it was clearly communicated that the working days are Monday to Friday. There was no mention of Saturday working or salary deductions linked to weekends.
Recently, a team lead posted the following message in the official group:
“Hello Team,
If anyone is not available on Saturday or don’t work on Saturday let us know via mail so, that we deduct their salaries for Saturdays.
Who told us before they are not available we deduct their salaries.
If any urgency work you will have to do it so plan accordingly.
Thank you!”
As a new joiner and fresher, this is extremely confusing and stressful. There is no written policy shared about Saturday being a working day. Offer discussions were strictly Monday to Friday. Now suddenly there is a threat of salary deduction for not working weekends.
What Happened Next
The team lead called the employee for work on a Saturday. The employee said they were out of station without their laptop. The team lead responded: “Ohh great next time se dhyan rakhna.”
When asked about the Monday-Friday terms discussed during hiring, the team lead said: “Yes monday to friday he hai but kaam hai toh karna padhega, clients ko aise mana ni kar sakte.”
